This Is More Than Just Making a Journal

A 3.5-day creative retreat in Salt Lake City where you’ll reconnect with your creativity, your body, and a community that truly gets you.

Create your own real junk journal from everyday materials, move gently, reflect deeply, and experience what happens when creativity and connection come together.

This retreat is an invitation to step out of your daily routine and into a space where creativity, movement, and connection come together.

Over three and a half days, you’ll create your own real junk journal from everyday materials—layer by layer, piece by piece—while reconnecting with your creative voice in a relaxed and supportive environment.

But this experience goes beyond the creative process.

Through gentle, accessible movement, quiet moments of reflection, and shared experiences with like-minded women, you’ll be reminded of something we often forget in our busy lives:

That creativity, connection, and taking care of your body are not separate things—they belong together.

Whether you come for the creativity, the connection, or simply the desire to do something for yourself… you’ll leave with more than you expected.

What you’ll experience

✨ Create your own real junk journal
Using everyday materials, you’ll build a journal that is personal, imperfect, and full of meaning—guided step by step, but always with room for your own voice.

✨ A gentle approach to movement
Short, accessible movement sessions designed to support your body, boost your energy, and remind you how good it feels to move—no pressure, no expectations, all levels welcome.

✨ Moments to reflect and reconnect
Through simple prompts and quiet pauses, you’ll have space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with yourself in a meaningful way.

✨ A shared evening of connection
We’ll gather for a relaxed dinner together—a chance to deepen conversations, share stories, and connect beyond the creative space.

✨ A small, supportive group
With a limited group of participants, this retreat offers a personal and welcoming atmosphere where genuine connections can grow.

Testimonials

“I participated in one of the She Who Creates retreats in 2025. I had a great time and walked away with an adorable journal, an increase in confidence, and met a lot of awesome women, some who will be lifelong friends. I would recommend, 10/10. : )”

- Rita

“She Who Creates was truly life changing for me. I felt safe and welcomed as we learned and created. I made friendships that have continued on and I have become newly inspired to make healthier choices for myself.”

- Bobi

“The workroom where we gathered and did all our junk journaling was magnificent. Barbara was efficient and the hostess, Kim, was so very friendly. We broke up the day with stepping outside and doing fun little exercises that even after my back surgeries were easy to accomplish. I enjoyed the retreat and persons participating.”

- Sally

“Being a participant in the 2025 She Who Creates retreat was so much more than just making art—it was about connecting with like-minded creators, each with their own beautiful and distinct style. And then there was the movement aspect, which was truly transformative. It was exactly what I needed to begin my own health journey. If you ever have the opportunity to attend, it is absolutely worth the effort ♡”

- Cathleen

“Oh, Yes you should absolutely sign up for the retreat. If you're thinking about it, you will be so glad you did. It was great fun and I loved every minute of our time together. Meeting Barbara was so surreal all the way from Vienna. Been watching her since her very first Youtube video. She's funny, smart and so caring. And the one on one conversations were the icing on the cake. The friends I made were so special. And the confirmation we all question? Am I just playing with paper? No, it really is art and there were so many ideas and beautiful souls who created amazing journals. You have to go. See you there!”

- Machelle

“I was already teaching basic Junk Journals at a local art center, when I attended the first She Who Creates class. I came home confident that I could grow my own Junk Journal business. I am 76 years old, but not too old to inspire others to create their own unique Junk Journals. Thank you, Barbara.”

- Ann

“The 2025 She Who Creates Retreat was phenomenal; it was a holistic experience, mind, body, and soul! We all departed with our self-made sisterhood journal to forever remember the experience. Barbara and Kimmie were the perfect pair!”

- Anonymous

This event was FABULOUS! It was so much fun. We learned how to have balance in our lives not only with craft therapy but by focusing on our mental and physical health as well. I will definitely attend next year!
